The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts houses a permanent collection of nearly 50,000 art objects from almost every major world culture. The museum’s collections of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Contemporary American; French Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and British Sporting art; Faberge jeweled objects; and English Silver are especially noteworthy. South Asian, Himalayan, and African art holdings are among the finest in the country. VMFA’s Native American gallery includes unique objects dating from prehistoric times to the present. Our visit will begin with a 50-minute docent-led highlights tour, after which you will be free to peruse your favorite exhibits. Lunch will be on your own at the museum’s Amuse Restaurant or Best Cafe. The bus will depart from the back of the upper parking lot of South Run Recreation Center, 7550 Reservation Drive, Springfield, VA 22153, off Rt. 286 (Fairfax County Parkway), promptly at 8:00 am. After turning onto Reservation Drive, turn left into the third or fourth entrance of the large parking lot on your left (by the soccer fields). Please arrive NLT 7:45 am.
