Cricket is one of the most popular worldwide viewer sports. It is as easy to watch and enjoy as baseball. This course will be a viewer’s guide to cricket and learning to enjoy it. The class will cover the basics for understanding the game of cricket, its history, and its future in the United States. Last year, Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States had its first playoff series. A major league cricket stadium is planned to be built at GMU in Fairfax for the local Washington Freedom team. This fall, the USA will be a host for the T20 World Cup of Cricket series that is held every two years. The sessions will cover: 1) The basics of the game of cricket; comparing it with baseball; 2) The various versions of cricket and why each is considered the best version; 3) The history of cricket in America and elsewhere.
Roy Wagner is a retired database consultant and past president of several computer user groups. He has been a casual sports fan for years. He and his wife have been ardent cricket fans since 2015 after a trip to Australia and New Zealand.
