Congressman Gerry Connolly (D) and former Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R) will come to OLLI for a special conversation as we head toward the presidential election of 2024. Congressman Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly is serving his eighth term in the House of Representatives from Virginia’s 11th District, which includes Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the Towns of Herndon and Vienna. Prior to his election to Congress, he served 14 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including five years as chairman. Throughout his career, protecting and growing Northern Virginia’s economy has been his top priority. Congressman Connolly is a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability and serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation. He serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is the President Emeritus of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Congressman Connolly was also ranked the Most Effective Lawmaker of the 117th Congress by the Center for Effective Lawmaking.
Barbara Comstock is a senior adviser at Baker Donelson law firm. She was a member of Congress (2015-2019), a member of the Virginia General Assembly (2010-15), served as director of Public Affairs at the Justice Department, as chief counsel on the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, and as a senior aide to Congressman Frank Wolf. Barbara was named one of the "Top Ten Most Effective Lawmakers" in the 115th Congress by the Center for Effective Lawmaking, a joint effort of the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University, and has been a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics, UVA’s Center for Politics, and the American University Sine Institute. Barbara serves as an ABC News political contributor, and appears regularly on CNN, PBS, and MSNBC. She currently serves as the president of the Association of the Former Members of Congress and is a co-chair of the National Counsel on Election Integrity.
