We often hear that the country is now more politically and socially divided than ever before. Our country, however, has been through many periods of intense polarization. In this course we will take a look at the year 1877. It was a period so tumultuous and violent that it might make today appear to be downright tranquil.
Heather Dudley taught at the high school and college level. She has an MA in History, an MA in Psychology, and a Doctorate from Georgetown University. She writes a blog—charactermattered.org—and is the author of a book on the founders: The Free and the Virtuous: Why the Founders Knew that Character Mattered.
