R414 Summer 2020 Techniques for Writers
Thursdays, 9:40–11:05, Jul. 23 - Jul. 30
Instructor: Chuck Cascio
The sessions "Quick Write" and "Read & Write" can be taken in isolation or as a two-part series. Both are offered via email directly with your instructor.
"Quick Write" transforms participants' thoughts into actual writing through a series of timed activities that stimulate ideas, which will be emailed in sequence by the instructor. The Quick Write pieces are then sent back to the instructor within the allotted timeframe for the instructor's "quick" comments. By the end of the "Quick Write" session, participants will have created unique, short drafts and received feedback from the instructor.
"Read & Write" is a session during which participants send pieces of writing that they have constructed, either in the "Quick Write" session or on their own (or both), and then make immediate revisions based on challenging activities provided by the instructor, who also includes his own feedback to each participant..
As a result of either one or both of the sessions, participants emerge eager to write more ... and confident that they can do so.
Award-winning author of six books (three fiction and three nonfiction) and hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles, Chuck Cascio was a journalism and English teacher in Fairfax County schools for 27 years as well as an adjunct professor at American University and George Mason University.
