954 Winter 2019 Hemingway in Paris
Monday, 11:50–1:15, Jan. 28
Instructor: Vera Wentworth
Ernest Hemingway got his literary start in the 1920s in Paris, where he became a member of the “Lost Generation.” We will read and discuss his autobiographical novel A Moveable Feast, in which he intermingles vignettes about Paris life, character sketches of friends and foes, and discussions about theories of writing to achieve a unified work. Clips of Woody Allen’s film Midnight in Paris will round out the lecture.
Vera Wentworth holds a PhD in English and has taught at the college level for 30 years, mostly at the University of Maryland and Prince George’s Community College. She has taught a variety of literature courses at OLLI.
