R805 Winter 2019 A Dozen Big Ideas: Let’s Discuss Them

Every semester Steve Ruth teaches a graduate seminar aimed at presenting over a dozen significant policy ideas and the arguments surrounding them. The list changes every semester. This course will present these ideas, together with commentary by some of their famous formulators, like Nobel Prize-winner Richard Thaler on “nudging,” Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg on “leaning in,” plus leading experts on such topics as income inequality, gender equity, geography as destiny, job displacement through artificial intelligence, minimum-wage versus guaranteed annual wage, the “nightmare scenario” of Artificial Intelligence, the decline of civility, fake news, the digital divide, cyberbullying, Internet dating, and many more.
