R803 Winter 2019 Healthy Aging: Bone Density, Posture, Balance, and Movement

This course will start with an overview of bone health and bone loss. Bone loss and posture changes are not a normal part of aging, and the good news is they are treatable. Learn about bone quality, proper body movement patterns, good posture for different activities. Through lectures and demonstrations, discover the role of balance and weight-bearing exercise programs in managing your bone health and posture and reducing fall risk. (Note: No exercise will be done by class participants, although exercise guidelines will be provided.)
Sandy Conran is a physical therapist at Bodies in Motion Physical Therapy in Reston. She has certifications in the Meeks Method of postural/bone loss management as well as in the Otago Exercise Program for fall prevention. She has special interests in bone health, posture, and chronic pain management and has 35 years of experience in the Northern Virginia area in private practice, hospital, and chronic pain center settings.
