F410 Winter 2019 Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass
Thursdays, 9:40–11:05, Jan. 24–Feb. 7
Instructor: Matthew Moffett
We will read and discuss The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. The first book in Pullman’s provocative and influential fantasy series His Dark Materials is an action-packed yet deeply philosophical work. The class will explore Pullman’s life, the novel, and its place within fantasy literature. Students should read through at least chapter five in The Golden Compass to prepare for the first class.
