L816 Summer 2018 Virtual Highlights Tour of Udvar-Hazy Center
Wednesday, 9:40–11:05, June 27
One session
Instructor: Mark Weinstein

The Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center has over 400 aircraft and space artifacts covering over 120 years of predominantly American history. Among the artifacts are the Space Shuttle Discovery, Dr. Robert Goddard’s early rockets, the Enola Gay B-29, a Concord supersonic airliner, and the prototype Boeing 707.
The Center also has WWI and WWII aircraft, a vast array of commercial aircraft, Vietnam and Cold War era aircraft, the largest collection of helicopters in one location in the US, and the largest collection of satellites on Earth. We will walk through photos and film clips with narrative. Separately, if your appetite is appropriately whetted, you can attend the on-site
tour, 952.
Mark Weinstein is a retired electrical engineer and a docent at both Smithsonian Air and Space Museums. He started building models when he was ten and continued his avid interest in aviation and intelligence through a career in the active and reserve Air Force, and then as part of the military-industrial complex. In his wild youth and single days he flew a Piper Tri-Pacer. Weinstein has been an OLLI member for ten years.
