If you’re making plans for yourself or a loved one to age in place, be sure that you are in the driver’s seat. There are a lot of curves and switchbacks. You’re going to need a good GPS. Set Fairfax Aging, Disability and Caregiver Resource Unit (ADCR) as that GPS. There are multiple options from remaining in your own home to adult communities to Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s). We can point you to what resources are available. You will first need to pack your priorities. What is important to you?: Being close to family? Good healthcare? Caregivers/home health? Shopping and restaurants? Transportation? Cultural, social and learning opportunities? What’s the real scoop on nursing homes in the area (always a last resort)? We can help you with that list along with the pros and cons.
