808R The Science of Your Life
Two sessions
Instructor: Gillian Backus
Tuesdays, 2:15—3:40, Sept. 30—Oct. 7
You have lived your life in your body since you were formed. You know your body intimately—or do you? How often do you stop and appreciate just how wondrous you are? Billions of cells communicating; exchanging materials; building proteins; copying DNA; building bone, muscle, brain; interpreting light, sound, smells, and tastes; responding to heat, cold, pressure, carbon dioxide levels, and infection. Let’s look at science in your life with this series where we will take YOUR questions on each body system and answer them in a seminar discussion format.
Gillian Backus earned her BA magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College and a PhD in Toxicology from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). Since 2009, she has been a full-time professor at NOVA-Loudoun teaching Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
