313Z The Imperial Presidency: From Woodrow Wilson to George H.W. Bush, Part Three
Four sessions
Instructor: Michael McGregor
Wednesdays, 9:40—11:05, Oct. 22—Nov. 12
This course will continue from the 2024 fall term course, F305/F305Z Imperial Presidency that focused on Presidents Woodrow Wilson through Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1974, Arthur Schlesinger Jr. wrote a book popularizing the “imperial presidency.” We will continue the examination of the power of the modern presidency with a look at whether each president from Harry Truman through George Herbert Walker Bush acted like a king. The course will also examine the role of Congress in permitting the “imperial presidency.”
Michael McGregor currently works as a policy analyst at the Department of Health and Human Services. Michael’s research has focused on the history of the U.S. presidency, Franklin Roosevelt, Congress, and the Lend-Lease Act. Michael received his Master of Arts degree from George Mason in 2012.
