816R You Can’t Make This Stuff Up
One session
Instructor: Michele Romano
Wednesday, 11:50—1:15, Nov. 5
At times, material will make it into the medical literature that is misleading if not flat out wrong. It can be totally absurd, often hilarious, and sometimes dangerous. It is then picked up by the media, rearranged, distorted even more, perpetuated, and spread to the far reaches of the galaxy. It then becomes gospel that is handed down from on high, never to be questioned again. It can be very difficult to unring the bell. You will be surprised that some of what you have been led to believe is nothing more than urban legend. You probably have a few stories of your own. This course will be fun but also a little scary. Take home message…trust but verify.
Michele Romano is a family physician who retired in 2015. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and held a faculty appointment as an associate professor of Clinical Medicine at VCU. She served on both the VCU board of trustees and the VCU health system board.
