F660  Can We Heal A Fractured World?
Wednesday, 2:15—3:40, Nov. 6
One session
Instructor: Rabbi Bruce Aft
Coordinator: Velma Berkey

This presentation will focus on Rabbinic and other religious insights and how conflict resolution can help. We will talk about identifying key issues that have fractured our world and the potential to repair our world as we listen to excerpts from Dr. Marc Gopin's book, Healing:The Heart of Conflict. Although healing our world isn't an easy fix, it may boil down to what we tell our children when they are younger: "Use your words." Please note that sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can break my heart. Finally, the power of listening is a key ingredient to reaching this goal.
Rabbi Bruce Aft, currently rabbi emeritus, served as the spiritual leader at Congregation Adat Reyim in Springfield, VA for 29 years. A graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, Rabbi Aft received an  Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2006. In retirement he continues to be an adjunct professor at George Mason University, visiting scholar at the Carter School at GMU, and is the president of the Community Board for Hillel at GMU.  For recreation, Rabbi Aft is a pitcher in the Ponce de Leon Baseball League.
