The SHAPE the Future of Aging Plan is a 5-year strategic plan which acts as a north star for County and community-based organizations to look to as we develop and implement services for older adults in our community. Join this panel conversation to learn about the opportunities outlined in the SHAPE plan to continue to make the Fairfax area an excellent place to age well.
Supervisor Walter L. Alcorn served his first term as Hunter Mill District Supervisor 2020-2023 and was elected to a second term beginning Jan. 1, 2024. He has lived in the Hunter Mill District for almost 30 years, first in the Town of Vienna and, since 1996, in Reston. He attended the University of Virginia. After graduating, he worked for the Providence District Supervisor for four years. Shortly thereafter he embarked on an environmental career that continues to this day. Walter has served on several county boards and commissions, most notably the Planning Commission for 16 years, followed by two years on the Park Authority Board. While on the Planning Commission, Walter led numerous initiatives including the school proffer policy, workforce housing policy, and Tysons re-planning.
Tara Turner is the director of the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging.  Her background is in social work and health sciences with a gerontology concentration. Tara has spent her career serving older adults over 20 years, and has most notably held positions as the director of ElderLink at Inova Health System, and has been the director of the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging since 2020. Tara is passionate about equitable and quality services, and partnerships that positively impact the lives of older adults and their caregivers.
Beth Ann Margetta is the assistant program manager of the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging. She has an MSW, is a licensed clinical social worker, and has worked within the Fairfax County Department of Family Services’ Adult and Aging Division since 2008. She is passionate about working to support and enhance the quality of life and care for older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers.
