1007 Hamilton: The Man and the Musical
Wed., 9:30–11:30, July 22
Instructor: Dan Sherman
Alexander Hamilton has always been known as a central player in America’s early history, but the smash Broadway musical Hamilton has focused new attention on the life and career of this fascinating individual. This multimedia course will draw on both Hamilton’s biography and its depiction on stage to review his accomplishments, discuss his relationship with Aaron Burr, and reflect on the accuracy of the musical. The instructor first gave this talk on Hamilton to OLLI in 2016 and has updated it for this class. Participants may wish to read Ron Chernow’s biography of Hamilton and listen to the show’s soundtrack before attending.
Dan Sherman has taught numerous courses for OLLI and other area organizations on musical theatre and other topics. He holds a PhD in economics from Cornell University and recently retired as a managing director at the American Institutes for Research.
