F408 Summer 2020 Cinema Arts Movie of the Week
Thursdays, 2:15–3:40, June 25–July 30
This class will meet on Zoom. You will not be required to attend a movie theater.
A link to a new movie available online will be sent to all registrants a week ahead.
You will have one week to view the movie before class. The class meeting will be a discussion of the movie.
Cinema Arts Theater web site has links to many new movies. Fees range from $5 to $12, and half the fee goes to the theater. This helps keep the movie house “alive” during the closure. Hopefully they will survive!
The situation is fluid, and we do not know what the status will be during summer session.
If the movie house opens, but they keep up the list of links, we will use them.
If the movie house opens, and they remove the on-line links, we will use other sources of on-line new movies.
Whatever happens, you will be able to safely view new movies, at home, for a reasonable fee, then join a Zoom discussion of the movie you have seen.
AND, we will meet Thursdays on all 6 weeks of summer session.
Russell Stone has been an OLLI member for nine years and was an OLLI board member for six years. He was a university professor for 40 years. His secret passions include contemporary cinema. Since Cinema Arts Theater is nearby, he wants to share his enthusiasm for the cinema, and as a
co-chair of Program Planning, he knows we need another movie course.
Stephanie Simcox worked in nonprofits for 30 years and is an avid movie fan who never misses a new Jane Austen film. She is also interested in the latest from Marvel, Pixar, or Studio Ghibli. After attending the San Francisco International Film Festival for many years, she’s not afraid of subtitles either!
