951 Winter 2019 One-Hit Wonders
Wednesday, 2:15–3:40, Jan. 23
Rose Gallery at Reston Community Center, Lake Anne
Instructor: Jim Dunphy

Everyone has heard of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Elvis, and many other artists who had scores of hits over multiple decades. But what about those singers who came from nowhere, had their one hit, and then returned to the obscurity from whence they came? What about Zager and Evans? The New Vaudeville Band? CW McCall? Toni Basil? A-Ha? OLLI finally gives these artists their due in this class on one-hit wonders. We will look at each act, view a video of their hit, and then contemplate their second act. So let’s take a musical road back and bask in the glow of one-hit wonders.
Jim Dunphy grew up in Brooklyn, NY, listening to the Good Guys on WMCA spin the platters, including some of these one-hit wonders. He has taught a variety of OLLI classes on history, sports, music literature, and movies.
