F402 Winter 2019 James Joyce’s Dubliners
Mondays, 11:50–1:15, Jan. 28–Feb. 18
Instructor: Michael Malouf
This course is devoted to the landmark short story collection Dubliners by James Joyce. These 15 stories, which trace Irish lives from childhood to middle age, include such classics as “Araby” and “The Dead.” We will also consider how these stories lay the groundwork for Joyce’s art that would develop in his later modernist novels.
Michael Malouf received his PhD at Columbia and is an associate professor of English at George Mason University. His book, Transatlantic Solidarities: Irish Nationalism and Caribbean Poetics, was published by the University of Virginia Press in 2009.
