R414 Summer 2018 A Month in the Country: The Novel and the Film
Tuesdays, 9:40–11:05, June 19–June 26
Instructor: Nancy Scheeler
Class limit: 35
In this class, we will discuss the powerful imagery in A Month in the Country, the Booker Prize-winning novel about a World War I soldier healing from his wartime experiences in a small village in Yorkshire. We’ll also look at relevant scenes from the recently restored film of the same name starring the young Colin Firth, Kenneth Branagh, and Natasha Richardson. The novel and the film represent an examination of the changes in Britain after WWI.
Nancy Scheeler completed a master’s degree and additional coursework in English and American literature at the University of Maryland.
