1004E Fall 2026 Four Founders and A Tea Party

Everyone knows about the Boston Tea Party (Dec. 16, 1774), but few know about “the Other Tea Party”, which took place in nearby Annapolis, MD. (Oct. 19, 1774). This bus trip travels to the Annapolis site where the Peggy Stewart, a ship loaded with 2300 pounds of tea, was burned and sank. Our tour includes the Annapolis homes of four Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence: Samuel Chase, Charles Carroll, William Paca, and Thomas Stone. The Paca House exhibits an impressive array of period portraits and furnishings, and the Carroll House features an elegant Georgian-era formal garden. We will also visit the historic State House, where 27 the Maryland Convention voted for independence, the Confederation Congress met, and the Treaty of Paris was ratified, officially ending the Revolutionary War. Lunch (pay on your own) will be at a colonial-era tavern, where the local Sons of Liberty once met.
