1001E Fall 2026 Guided Tour of Culpeper National Cemetery

Let's drive out to the Virginia Piedmont to learn about the history, people, and monuments of the Culpeper National Cemetery (CNC). Established on April 13, 1867, the grounds are the final resting places of 15,000 individuals, including Union soldiers and at least one Confederate soldier who fell in battle or died of disease during the Civil War in the surrounding Culpeper area. We will stroll the grounds on a narrated guided tour led by CNC volunteer Jeff Joyce. Our meeting place will be at the CNC Administration Building (305 U.S. Avenue, Culpeper), beginning at 10:00am. Participants will provide their own transportation to and from Culpeper, with self-arranged carpools an option. After the tour, members may choose to head home or choose to lunch at a Culpeper eatery and/or visit the Museum of Culpeper History (113 Commerce St, admission $5). NOTE: This event is a follow-up to Jeff Joyce's July 28 in-person class 304F/304Z "Crossroads of Conflict: Civil War Culpeper and Culpeper National Cemetery."
