108F Rhythm & Nature: Drumming and Garden-based Programming to Promote Connection, Confidence, and Self-expression
Eight sessions
Instructors: Emily Ihara, Michelle Hand
Thursdays, 11:50—1:15, Sept. 24—Nov. 12
This is an interactive class of Rhythm & Nature (R&N) sessions. R&N is a modifiable drumming and garden-based program designed to promote connection, confidence, and self-expression. The activities involved in R&N provide an opportunity for a multi-sensory bilateral experience as participants can engage both hands in a coordinated manner while drumming and later during gardening activities, which have been shown to promote relaxation and emotional processing. There will be multiple opportunities provided throughout the eight class sessions for co-creating music and garden-based artifacts. Previous musical or gardening experience is not necessary to participate in this class. Please wear comfortable clothing and come prepared to move, noting that the drumming and garden-based activities can be completed in a standing or sitting position with one or both hands.
